箱根登山鉄道は、信太郎が子どもの頃に祖母と一緒に乗りに行って以来、大好きな鉄道のひとつです。この電車はチキ1形と言いますが、チは地方鉄道、キは軌道を示します。つまり、軌道線と鉄道線を直通運転するために開発された車両です。

実車は金色の飾りを職人が手で描いていたのですが、このサイズの模型では手書きが困難なため、真鍮板をエッチング抜きにして装飾部品を作り、車体に貼り付けています。窓ガラスにはひずみのない顕微鏡用のスライドグラスを使っています。
